Becoming a Web Designer & Developer

On the 6th day of May, I publicly proclaimed (via Facebook) my interest in becoming a professional web designer & developer. One of the paralyzing questions I asked my self was, “Where do I start?”

“Start at the beginning”, said the voice inside me.

The answer might not be very helpful, but sometimes we just manage to lead our way to something that might be helpful to get us where we want to be.

Lance suggested that I read the Opera Web Standards Curriculum, a tutorial course made for those who want to have a solid knowledge on standards-based web design. And so, I’m giving it a try.

I believe when you are focused and definitely serious about what you’re trying to achieve, you’ll find that anything you encounter is something valuable. And by making most out of it, you get to build your own path towards your goal.

If you’re interested in the tutorial course I mentioned, just visit the Opera Web Standards Curriculum website. By the way, the course is free!

Once you’re there, you can follow the curriculum from start to finish or simply read articles that interest you. You can also visit the Opera Developer Community website for other interesting readings.

Since I’m not a newbie when it comes to web design and development, I believe I’ll finish the course in no time. This is just a matter of persistence and sustaining interest which, is something I have to constantly remind my self.
